This is a fandom auction community for the UN’s appeal for Syria.

The UN recently launched an appeal for aid that’s the largest in their history and I thought that fandom – who are generally quick to respond to humanitarian crises with fundraising drives – might perhaps be interested in an auction to raise money towards this.

More details on the UN appeal and the scale of the crisis can be found here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-22813207

Thanks for giving us the heads up about this charity auction. :-) I usually at least try to place bids in fandom auctions if I don't donate items. I'll be sure to check out what's up for grabs and spread the word on my own LJ.

thank you for signal boosting! I am currently trying to work out what I could offer for this - first time doing such a thing, though I have been a buyer before.

I'm sure a fic offer would go down well. :-) The fic doesn't even have to be long. My only advice is to make sure you can carry through on your commitment. I can't tell you the number of times I haven't received what I bought. Yes, I know the money is going to a good cause, but I don't think you should offer to donate something unless you're able to carry through. If nothing else, it could put people off fandom auctions.

thank you - I've said I'll write a minimum of 1000 words, which is doable, and I've been clear about what I will and won't write, so I hope that will help!

[edit to add] kate_lear's introductory post stresses that people shouldn't sign up unless they are confident they can follow through on their offer(s).

Oooooh! That's awesome! I'll definitely be bidding on your fic when the bidding starts! :-D

It's great that kate_lear makes it clear that people shouldn't sign up unless they can follow through on their offer(s). In fact, she explains the whole process very well. :-)

thank you very much! I passed on your comment to kate_lear, because I know she put a lot of thought into explaining the process.
